Whole Orange and Mulled Wine Cake

The smell of warm mulled wine sums up christmas perfectly and so I have used the flavours to make a 'whole orange' cake soaked in a mulled wine syrup and decorated with orange peel.

The cake is rich in flavour and made slightly dense, as intended, by the addition of ground almonds. The syrup has made it moist and comforting and the look of it is simple yet elegant. It is a delicious take on a christmas favourite.
