Harissa and Halloumi Pasty
This is a Middle Eastern version of a traditional Cornish pasty. It features a similar pastry and is filled with chunks of halloumi, red pepper, broccoli and cauliflower cooked in harissa.
The pastry is spot on for a pasty, being crisp and crunchy with a slight robustness as opposed to being too short and crumbly. I clearly had a little too much filling and therefore couldn't crimp it as intended, but this did mean it didn't end up with a huge crust. The plain yet savoury flavour of the pastry, resulting from the addition of lard, is a perfect casing for a well spiced and very tasty filling. I have to say, to me anything with halloumi in is heavenly, but the addition of harissa elevates it to the next level. I could eat these every day more than happily.
