Butteries

These are a sweet dough layered with a butter and lard mixture and sprinkled with demerara sugar.

The bread is very similar to a lardy cake, with a rich buttery taste, a soft dough texture and flaky exterior. The demerara topping is crunchy and adds a much needed sweetness. They are simple in flavour but marry perfectly with a big dollop of  berry jam.
