Rhubarb and Pear Turnovers



I have a freezer full of fruit so I thought I ought to start using it, making some flaky pastry turnovers filled with rhubarb and pear flavoured with orange zest, all sprinkled with granulated sugar.

The pastry is light and flaky with wonderful layers as can be seen on the sides of the puff. The two fruits go well together with the flavours enhanced by the orange. The sugar on the top adds a very welcome crunch and sweetness. It is not quite perfectly sealed, and made a big mess of my oven by butter leaking out, but it is delicious nonetheless.
