Ginger and Custard Filled Sesame Buns
These are my chinese inspired sweet buns to celebrate Chinese New Year. They are a ginger dough with a vanilla creme patisserie centre with chopped stem ginger, and topped with sesame seeds.
The glaze on the buns makes them look shiny and delicious, and the sesame seeds top them nicely, adding to both the look and subtly to the flavour. The custard inside is the perfect taste and consistency and the small pieces of ginger add a hint of spice. The dough was soft and well baked around the custard, although some of them developed a slight gap where the liquid produced some steam. The improvement I would make would be to spice the dough with a little more ginger to make elevate them to another level of flavour. Other than that, they are lovely.
