Fairtrade Fortnight Bake Off Competition
Today I entered a bake off competition for Fairtrade Fortnight. It involved making an afternoon tea following a couple of recipes for the sweet bakes. I made some butterfly cakes which I lightened with a dash of milk and added a little orange zest and juice to the buttercream. There were some scones made with orange zest and juice and some chocolate chips. I also made some cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches. I deviated from the recipes a little but produced products to be proud of and, after much scrutiny from the judges, managed to win!
The whole experience, attempted on my own despite being a pairs competition, was very enjoyable and extremely worthwhile. It was an excellent stepping stone towards professional baking and proper competitions. I had only 1 hour 30 minutes to bake and wash up so am over the moon at what I managed to achieve!
