Frangelico Monkey Bread

Monkey bread is one of those 'modern' bakes that has emerged over the last few years to become very popular. It is made up of small balls of sweet dough rolled in butter and sugar then placed in a tin and baked to merge together and produce a puzzle effect. My version rolls the dough in light brown sugar and chopped hazelnuts, and is drizzled in a frangelico flavoured caramel sauce.

The dough itself is light and soft with a perfect texture. The outsides have caramelised due to the sugar and butter mixture. The hazelnuts give an earthy flavour and lovely crunch, contrasting the bread. I think the caramel drizzle is what takes it from 'ok' to spectacular, with the deep frangelico kick. This is sweet, sticky and absolutely delicious.
