Brown Sugar Spiced Apple Doughnuts

These are some doughnuts coated in brown sugar and mixed spice, filled with a sweetened apple purée.

The dough is soft and well risen, cooked perfectly so it is aerated inside. I had one of my ridiculous moments of forgetting to put sugar in my dough however this affected only the rise and not the taste as I contrasted the savoury taste with a sweet filling and sugar coating. I found that the round doughnuts were easier to shape than the ring ones. Next time I would cut them out with a cutter rather than shaping them myself. Other than that, they were great.
