Week 7, French Week Showstopper Millefeuille.
The showstopper bake this week is a vanilla custard slice. This is a vanilla custard sandwiched between two layers of puff pastry decorated with water icing and dark chocolate.
I am amazed and very pleased with how well the puff pastry turned out. It was flaky and full of the many layers that are characteristic of millefeuille. This was the best pastry I have made, showing just what I have learnt in the past few months. The custard also set well, although it made its way out of the middle of the slice over time, but this is perhaps due to my generosity in filling more than anything else! Also, my cowardice of cutting the pastry before filling didn’t aid with this either. But, bearing in mind that is my only real failing on this bake, I am incredibly proud.
