Cheese and Garlic Pull Apart Loaf

As bread goes, you can't really beat something flavoured with garlic and cheese. This is a savoury version of my previous lemon pull apart bread that is filled with garlic butter and cheddar cheese. A delicious accompaniment to soup for a tasty meal.

Recipe - Makes a 2lb loaf

  • 350g strong white  bread flour
  • 7g fast action dried  yeast
  • 7g salt
  • 220ml water
  • 80g grated cheddar cheese
  • 30g melted butter
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp parsley

Put the flour in a bowl and tip the yeast to one side and the salt to the other. Add enough water to form a soft dough. Turn out onto a work surface and knead for 5-10 minutes to smooth. Place into a bowl and cover with clingfilm. Leave in a warm place to rise for 1 hour or to doubled.

Tip the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and roll out to a large rectangle 5mm thick. Cut into strips the same width as your tin. Mix the melted butter, garlic paste and parsley together and brush over the top of each of the pieces. Sprinkle on the cheese and carefully layer each piece of dough on top of each other. Cut into rectangles and place in the tin side by side stood on end. Cover with a tea towel and leave in a warm place to rise for 30-45 minutes, or until doubled. Bake at 180C for 15-20 minutes, or until brownes. Remove and leave in the tin for 10 minutes, then remove gently and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
